Game Terminology

From Funiaita

Souls like

  • Hardcore Puzzle and you will die a lot
  • Really, "Souls like" means there will be a puzzle to solve, just hitting someone with your sword will NOT hurt him

Example: DARK SOULS: REMASTERED

Rouge like

  1. Only one life
  2. procedural created environment (dungeon, building or star system)
  3. turn based

Example: FTL: Faster Than Light

Many games call themselves "rouge like", but they give you more than one life or the world is not randomly differently created each time or they are not turn based. VERY FEW games are really rouge like. And no, I don't give a shit what the developers say. The definition is there. Shut up if you can't read.

RPG

Role Playing Game

  • You can decide HOW to play the character, there MUST very often be multiple choices for your behavior
  • Just being able to modify your character stats does NOT make it a RPG
  • If different choices do not bring different outcomes, it is NOT a RPG

Example: Fallout 4 or STAR WARS Knights of the Old Republic

RTS

Real time strategy Funny thing is, it is more tactic than strategy in most cases. But language is not very important for kids. Right?

  • Real time (versus turn based)
  • Multiple units have to be managed
  • Isometric view or a view like that. Games like "Arma 3" where you can command multiple units from first person are NOT considered RTS games.

Example: Cepheus Protocol or Wargame: European Escalation
