==== About versions ==== |
If a mod has versions for "Anniversary Edition" and "Special Edition" it might be that your choice should be depending on the version of your Skyrim. I have only "Skyrim SE", as far as I know I don't have the Anniversary Edition, but if I install the SE versions of mods instead of the Anniversary version, then my Skyrim does not even start. |
<blockquote style="background-color: lightgrey; border: solid thin grey;text-align: center;"> |
I own SE but must install the Anniversary Edition versions of the mods. |
</blockquote> |
It seems that Bethesa's Anniversary version somehow made the versioning system defect. |
There exists the [https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/57618 Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Downgrade Patcher] which allows you to just keep using SE versions of mods and not have to switch to AE (Anniversary Edition) versions or just not have these mods at all. |
I do NOT know if the downgrading has problems but I read multiple posts where people mentioned that they were using a downgraded version and it worked. |

These mods are using a version which is not depending on AE or SE but just work or these are AE (Anniversary Edition) versions. |

! Crime Overhaul |
! |
| Guards are less inept, getting arrested is less cumbersome, accidental attacks are more forgiving, and Thaneship is more rewarding. |
| |
* Paying off your bounty never results in being transported to another location. |
* Getting away with crimes is now more challenging: guards who make the remark "Wait... I know you" will force the player into dialogue. (Violent crimes will get the "stand fast" dialogue.) Exiting this dialogue will be considered resisting arrest. |
* The greeting distance for all NPCs has been greatly reduced so that you almost need to physically bump into a guard in order to be caught. |
* Crimes totalling less than the "petty crime threshold" won't put you on their radar (unless they are alerted.) |
* Guards who catch you in the act of accidentally attacking someone (even themselves) and then surrendering will immediately let you go. |
* Sheathing your weapons will prevent normally-friendly NPCs from attacking you in return under most circumstances, and accidental violent crimes will be forgiven. (Exceptions are when you've committed an act of cannibalism or when your violent crime fines exceed a threshold.) |
* Being caught by the guards gives the player a 50% chance of getting the "I don't have time for this..." response, which means that you'll be allowed to leave without paying a fine. (This chance only happens if you run into a non-alerted guard.) |
* Aela, Farkas, Skjor, and Vilkas can now arrest the player or demand bounty payment. This fixes the "endless forcegreet" bug which is present in vanilla Skyrim. |

| Outside of most buildings, you'll find a Property Sign. Interact with it to buy, sell and rent properties, from which you'll earn income. |

Use a Master Ledger to review your current status. You need also to keep it up to date, to do so you just need to select the "Ledger's quill" from your inventory. |
Collect your income from Safes located in each jarl's palace. The safes are locked, so that no thieves will steal your rent. The key is automatically given to the player during the tutorial. |

! Pickpocket Rebalance |
| ? |
| This is just a very simple mod that raises the maximum pickpocket chance to 100% and makes the gold value of the item count 1/10th of the vanilla setting when calculating the chance for success. |
| Immersive Patrols adds Stormcloak, Thalmor, Imperial and Dawnguard patrols to Skyrim and a few roaming Skaal, Reaver and Rieklings to Solstheim. These patrols can cross paths with eachother or the player creating new encounters. |
| https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/718?tab=description |
It never made sense to me that expensive, yet small items can be all but impossible to steal. I can agree you might pay a little more attention to your more valuable things, but you don't put motion sensors on them...In the vanilla game, it is easier to steal a full suit of armor than it is to steal one enchanted gold ring. |
I'm only uploading this because I figured that if I wanted a simple change to pickpocket that doesn't affect perks or other massive stealth gameplay changes, then someone else might want it as well. |
This only changes the pickpocketmaxchance and the pickpocketvaluemult settings and is compatible with any mod that doesn't change either of those. |

| Break soul gems and craft new ones with the fragments. This allows you to craft soul gems by breaking any soul gems you currently have. In order to craft new soul gems first you'll need the Arcane Blacksmithing perk. Then you will need to either find soul gem fragments, or break existing soul gems into fragments. You can then clean these fragments of any residual magical energies or impurities at the forge, so that they can be used to make new soul gems using an additional ingredient to magically bind the fragments together. For black soul gems you will need 1 human flesh, human heart, or potion of blood. Normal soul gems will require 1 glow dust, or 1 Void Salts. |

The spell highlights friendlies in blue, enemies in red, and the dead in orange. It will only last for up to 24 hours (base), but will need to be recast if you change locations (like fast travel or entering a city). This is also how to dispel the effects, if you wish. It only has a radius of "500", so sometimes you'll need to recast it if you've moved a ways outside of the area you originally cast it in. After a long, hard-fought battle with many foes, you may want to re-cast this spell so that you can locate all the dead and loot their corpses. |
| For example tells you what a shrine does BEFORE you use it. |
How to obtain: The "Spell Tome: Detect Aura" book can be discovered inside of a satchel, found in 39 locations throughout Skyrim. One such location is beside the Shrine of Talos, high up in the mountains, SSW of Froki's Shack. After you pay a visit to Froki Whetted-Blade and his son Haming inside their cabin, turn left as you exit the cabin and head on up the mountain. You'll find the Shrine of Talos and a satchel sitting beside it (along with other goodies). For cheaters *cough*, just use "cow Tamriel 22,-26" to travel there. |

! Simple Game Loops - Skooma |
! Crime Overhaul |
| ? |
| Guards are less inept, getting arrested is less cumbersome, accidental attacks are more forgiving, and Thaneship is more rewarding. |
| This mod simply makes 'Skooma' and 'Double-Distilled Skooma' craftable in the cooking station. This mod also adds a crafting recipe for Moon Sugar using the newly added Sugar Cane alchemical ingredient. |
* Sugar Cane : A new ingredient with roughly half the effect of moon sugar, Able to be purchased from the Khajiit Caravans in groups of 10-12 (base price 12) |
* The greeting distance for all NPCs has been greatly reduced so that you almost need to physically bump into a guard in order to be caught. |
* Moon Sugar Recipe : Crafted at a cooking station using 3 Sugar Cane in the Misc. section |
* Crimes totalling less than the "petty crime threshold" won't put you on their radar (unless they are alerted.) |
* Skooma Recipe : Crafted at a cooking station using 1 Moon Sugar and 1 Nightshade (makes 4) |
* Guards who catch you in the act of accidentally attacking someone (even themselves) and then surrendering will immediately let you go. |
* Double-Distilled Skooma Recipe : Crafted at a cooking station using 1 Skooma and 1 Sugar Cane (makes 1) |
* High violent crime bounties are no longer payable by fines. To change this, set "CrimeOverhaulMurderPay" to 1. |
* Violent crimes and high bounties for non-violent crimes now have a chance of sending the player directly to jail upon arrest. |
* The jailbreak system has been overhauled so that escaping from jail is actually rewarding. |

In Castle Dour, you get to meet the Empire's ambassador to Skyrim, Ambassador Cromwell. He is in charge of Skyrim's political matters. His loyalty to the Empire is strong however, and he will do what is best for the Empire. Maybe if you can convince him that Maven is corrupt, he can do something about it... |

Sofia is quite an unusual follower. She is tough, witty and just a little bit boastful. She has a strong fondness for the player character but her deliberate attempts to disguise the fact just leads to very awkward conversations especially as she usually says exactly what she thinks. Sofia is a tease and loves to wind people up which doesn’t make her very popular with people. Her rebellious spirit and careless attitude often gets her in trouble. Not to mention her constant inappropriate comments which easily offend or embarrass people. |
(these are mods known from original Skyrim) |
If you give Sofia alcohol as a gift she will drink it and become physically drunk which changes all of her dialogue to also sound drunk. If you ask her to sing she will sing some familiar Skyrim tunes but with the wrong lyrics or her own new songs written by Christine. When you start riding a horse she will summon her own and start riding alongside you. You can also set her personal horse using with a spell. You can also set her dismiss location where she will hang out and do her own thing. If she falls behind then don’t worry because she will intelligently spawn behind the player character when out of view. She also has her own storage. She has an MCM menu where you can adjust adjust comment frequency and the catch up feature as well as combat settings. |

! Item Durability |
| Implement armor durability loss when you get hit or weapon durability loss when you hit something. As the weapon and armor quality worsens they have less value and offer less damage or armor rating. You can temper the weapons and armor to bring them back up to high quality, think of this as the repair mechanic. |
It uses the temper quality system. Normal quality is 100%, if your temper skill raises quality by 10% then that will be the amount you repair each time. For example if your item is at 37% quality (quite broken) then it will only offer 37% of normal damage or armor rating and cost 37% of normal value when selling to vendor. You can raise the quality by 10% each time you temper it so if you want to bring it back to 100% (or 107%) then you need to temper it 7 times. Temper amount can not exceed your normal maximum temper amount. For example if you temper up 10% each time it can not exceed 110%. If your blacksmithing skill is weak and the equipment piece is very broken then it may be cheaper to even craft a new armor than repair it up again. |
Weapon and armor durability loss per hit is configurable. By default it will lose quality quite slowly, so you eventually will get worse equipment but it is not something you have to worry about constantly. Equipment with better materials lose durability slower. Heavy armor also loses durability slower than light armor. |
It shows durability number in item name by default, this is only enabled if the item durability is not exactly 100.0%. You can disable this to only see the label of quality instead of number. |

Highly compatible, seamlessly integrated without game-launch popups or Power-bloat, zero script-load outside of using crafting stations or linked containers, crossplatform (incl. VR & Enderal) and is very simple to understand and use. |
You start by crafting a Link Stone at any Forge (requires 1 Petty Soul Gem (unfilled)). That's all you need to know. There's a description on the stone itself for how to use it so feel free to stop reading the page here. |

| It works well, but "Better Container Controls for SkyUI" is better for my needs. |

! Simple Degradation - A Durability Mod |

| Weapon and Armor tempering degrade with hits done and taken. |

| When grouped in favourites, it sometimes does not recognize the weapon, even if the naming seems ok. Not so good during a heated fight. |

# charge calculation. Note that the formula is not actually linear, the |

# name of this setting is historical; the formula is actually quadratic. |
# |
# This setting is useful if the charge cap is close to 199, as the |
# later level-ups in enchanting will give massive boosts to the number |
# of charge points available. |
# |

# Set the skill experience gained multiplier for base and offset. |
# |
# For compatibility reasons, the skill multiplier configuration sections accept |
# three different formats for their values. |
# 1) A single floating point number (e.g. 2.0). This will set the base |
# exp multiplier to the given value (2.0 in our example) and the offset |
# multiplier to 1.0. |
# 2) A single float + a trailing '/' (e.g. 2.0/). This will set both the |
# exp base and exp offset multipliers to the given value (2.0 in our |
# example). |
# 3) Two floating point numbers, separated by a '/' (e.g. 2.0/3.0). This |
# will set the exp base mult to the first number and the exp offset mult |
# to the second number. In our example, the base mult would be 2.0 and |
# the offset mult would be 3.0. |
# |
# Note that the game applies its own multipliers to the exp base value. For |
# example, enchanting has a base multiplier of 900 in an unmodified game. |
# |
# The skill experience you gain is actually: |
# <final exp> = <vanilla base> * <skill base mult> * <specific skill base mult> |
# + <vanilla offset> * <skill offset mult> * <specific skill offset mult> |
# |

About versions
If a mod has versions for "Anniversary Edition" and "Special Edition" it might be that your choice should be depending on the version of your Skyrim. I have only "Skyrim SE", as far as I know I don't have the Anniversary Edition, but if I install the SE versions of mods instead of the Anniversary version, then my Skyrim does not even start.
I own SE but must install the Anniversary Edition versions of the mods.
It seems that Bethesa's Anniversary version somehow made the versioning system defect.
There exists the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Downgrade Patcher which allows you to just keep using SE versions of mods and not have to switch to AE (Anniversary Edition) versions or just not have these mods at all.
I do NOT know if the downgrading has problems but I read multiple posts where people mentioned that they were using a downgraded version and it worked.
Mods
Good
These mods are using a version which is not depending on AE or SE but just work or these are AE (Anniversary Edition) versions.

Detect Aura (spell) | ? | Nearby living creatures, undead, dead, machines and daedra, can be seen through walls. Remake of "Detect Life" spell.

Sofia - The Funny Fully Voiced Follower | Sofia is a humorous and advanced fully voiced follower voiced by the talented Christine Slagman (finalCrystine). Sofia is voiced to the very highest of quality and Christine has a rather extensive list of Skyrim mod credits from Falskaar to Helgen Reborn and Interesting NPCs where she played the loveable Misha amongst others.
Sofia is fully location and quest aware (currently just the main quest and bounty quests) and will comment on the player character and her surroundings. She has her own custom dialogue system which allows for longer and more detailed dialogue. Her combat style is destruction spell in one hand and a one handed weapon in the other by default but this can be changed in her MCM menu. How do you teach her spells? You need to have SKSE for this feature then simply just give her a spell book. |

Easier harvesting | Requires you to crouch in order to change planted crop so that you don't accidentally get the prompt to change while just trying to pick up the harvest. | https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/60658 | |

To steal an item, you have to go in sneak mode, and then you can steal all you like. |

Item Durability | Implement armor durability loss when you get hit or weapon durability loss when you hit something.

Linked Crafting Storage | Minimalistic mod for avoiding the hassle of taking out and putting back materials in containers when crafting.
There's a description on the stone itself for how to use it so feel free to stop reading the page here. |
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/64772?tab=description | It works well, but "Better Container Controls for SkyUI" is better for my needs. |
Simple Degradation - A Durability Mod | Weapon and Armor tempering degrade with hits done and taken. | https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/74790 | When grouped in favourites, it sometimes does not recognize the weapon, even if the naming seems ok. Not so good during a heated fight. |
